In 40 days, we leave for Ukraine. It is truly hard to believe that we are finally going after all this time. We started our homestudy for this adoption at the beginning of October, 2005. After hitting several roadblocks and redoing our dossier 3 times, we finally received our appointment date; June 12, 2008!
The last 2.5 years since we started our journey has been very challenging both mentally and emotionally. We have had tremendous support from our families, friends, co-workers and other couples who are embarking on the same journey. This support has helped us to continue moving forward and not give up on our dream to adopt a child. To those of you who have been there for us, you have our heartfelt thanks. We have learned a lot on this journey so far but what really stands out in our minds is how blessed we are to have such good people in our lives.
Our family held a steak nite fundraiser for us to raise money for the orphanage we adopt from. It was a huge success! We raised a significant amount of money that will be put to good use for the children in the orphanage. Again, a huge thank you to everyone who attended and/or donated. It was a lot of fun and we got to see people that we haven't seen for a very long time.
Now the getting ready part. The packing lists are compiled and the language books and CD's in hand. I find it kind of humorous that after 2.5 years, we still feel like we will not be ready to go by June 8 which is when we leave for Ukraine.
Well, this is our first official post on our blog. We will try to post as often as we can when we are in Ukraine. Bye for now!

Hi, we started our adoption adventure in March 2005 and after several roadblocks and re-doing the dossier three times, we finally met and adopted our boy in October 2007. We wish you all the best for your trip.
Hi, I just found your blog on frua. We adopted our son from Ukraine in Dec 07. I look forward to following your journey!!
Good luck on your journey. It is an amazing experience! (I found you on the frua board.)
Hi guys.
You sound like you are having quite an adventure. It brings the little hairs on the back of my neck up and tears to my eyes when I read about your activities and especially the little guy and his excitement and wonderment. I bet he just loves Sydney.
I went over to see your mom this morning to help her with an excel problem she was having. Buddy wouldn’t let me leave without him, so guess where he is right now. I can’t get over how much he loves Mickey.
I had a garage sale last weekend and who should be one of my customers but Carla Matteson (spelling???). You may remember she adopted a little girl from Guatamala (I think). What a pretty girl she is and when I told her about your adventure, she was just so excited for you and said to send her best wishes.
We’ve had some nice weather the last few days. Warm, sunny and finally my flowers and plants are taking off.
We think about you a lot and are so happy that things are running somoothly—let’s hope there are no more paperwork gliches. It’ll be fabulous to meet the little guy and it’ll be amazing how quickly he will learn English.
Love to you all. Keep the updates coming and we can hardly wait to meet “R”
Love Meg & Rob
